amrittuladhar.com
Saturday, March 24th, 2007So I decided to do it. I registered amrittuladhar.com. Part of the motivation was the fact that Gridley, where I was hosting my site, was experiencing some problems. I must note that I am by no means being critical of Gridley or its admins. I think the Gridley admins are doing a great job of maintaining it despite being busy Carleton students. Gridley is a set-up for experimentation by students and was never meant to be a reliable web server anyway and I guess I was just ready to get a real web server. So I ended up getting a domain name from Yahoo! Small Business, which offers domain names for $1.99 / year for new customers; besides, another great thing about them is that you can list yourself as the admin for a domain (as you can find out by running a whois on my domain name). I also found a great one-time deal of one dollar a year with Surpass Hosting. The experience has been pretty good so far.
With the new domain name, I have also worked, and continue to work on, what is hopefully a more professional and cleaner redesign of the main site. The site will continue to be a place for me to experiment with web programming and to host different projects and other work (for example, papers).
